HBO mercury lamps are short arc lamps in which the luminous arc burns in an atmosphere of mercury vapor at high pressure.
OSRAM HBO mercury lamps are available in wattages ranging from 50 to several thousand watts.
Lamps rated at 350 watts and above are used almost exclusively to manufacture electronic chips in microlithography for such tools as Mask Aligners, Steppers and Scanners.
Lamps rated at less than 200 watts are predominantly used in scientific and technical applications such as:
– Fluorescence microscopy
– Fluorescence endoscopy
– Optical waveguide applications
– Schlieren photography
– Hologram projection
– UV curing
The main characteristics and benefits of OSRAM HBO lamps are:
– High radiance
– Multiline spectrum
– High radiant power in the UV and the visible range
– AC and/or DC operation
Because of their high luminance, UV radiation and internal pressure in both the hot and cold state, HBO lamps may only be operated in enclosed lamp casings specially constructed for the purpose.
